Elegend EL1: A Modern Electric Sports Coupe with Audi Rally Heritage

Elegend EL1

This is the Elegend EL1, a two-seat electric sports coupe that is set to make its official debut at the IAA Mobility 2021 on September 6th. Upon first glance, you might notice the striking resemblance to the iconic Audi Sport Quattro S1 rally car, and that’s because the EL1 is a modern interpretation of this legendary car.

The concept of modernizing classic and historic vehicles isn’t always well-received, but the EL1 breaks the mold by combining an electric drivetrain with a sophisticated chassis design and tuning. This car is truly one-of-a-kind, as it has been developed from the ground up with the involvement of select industry specialists in both design and manufacturing.

The EL1 rides on 19-inch wheels at the front and 20-inch wheels at the rear.

The suspension of the EL1 consists of a double-wishbone axle with triple-adjustable dampers, while the braking system features 360 mm discs all around with four-piston brake calipers.

Powering the EL1 are three electric motors – two at the rear axle and one at the front axle. The rear motors are rated at 225kW each, while the solo motor at the front is rated at 150kW. Collectively, the system power output reaches an impressive 600kW or 816hp. The EL1 can accelerate from 0-100km/h in just 2.8 seconds and 0-200km/h in 8.5 seconds, with a top speed limited to 300km/h.

The EL1 is equipped with a 90 kWh battery that can be fast-charged using a 300 kW DC charger. Additionally, a 22 kW AC/DC onboard charging converter allows for fast charging at home. To optimize the center of gravity, the battery cells are arranged in a “T” shape along the center tunnel and behind the first row of seats.

Keeping with the spirit of simplicity, the EL1 offers only two driving modes: Standard and Sports. However, for driving on uneven road surfaces, a lift system will be available. Inside, the EL1 provides all the necessary amenities, including a multimedia system, Bluetooth connectivity, power windows, reverse camera, and parking sensors.

Only 30 units of the Elegend EL1 will be manufactured starting from 2022, each hand-built and priced at 890,000 Euros.
